Call for Applications: 8th Weekend Seminar “Philosophy of Physics” (apply by 15 Sep 2025)

We are pleased to announce the 8th annual weekend seminar on the “Philosophy of Physics”, taking place in Tübingen from 24-26 October 2025. This year’s theme is “Information”, and the event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Tübingen Forum for the Study of Scientific Cultures.

This seminar aims to introduce students to key topics and approaches in the philosophy of physics – both intellectually and as an academic field – with a particular focus this year on the concept of information.

Program Highlights include:

  • Keynote lectures by leading scholars:
    • Prof. Christopher Timpson (Oxford) on the concept of information in quantum theory
    • Prof. Javier Anta (Seville) on the philosophy of information
    • Dr. Saaskhi Dulani (Johns Hopkins) on the black hole information paradox
  • Guided small-group discussions based on selected readings (e.g. “It from Bit”, Quantum Resource Theories)
  • A panel discussion on “What is the Philosophy of Physics?”

Beyond the formal program, the seminar offers a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and engaging conversations among like-minded peers in an open and collaborative environment.

Who can apply?
Applications are welcome from students of all disciplines, especially those in physics and philosophy.
Accommodation costs and part of the travel expenses can be covered by the organizers.
