Workshop “From PhD to Postdoc: Navicating the DFG Walter Benjamin Programme” (4 Jun 2026)

The workshop will take place on Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and is designed to support early-career researchers in preparing competitive applications for the DFG Walter Benjamin Programme.

The places are very limited so please apply asap if you are interested!

The Walter Benjamin Programme is particularly well suited as a first independent funding opportunity after the PhD. It enables researchers to carry out their own research project at a host institution of their choice, either in Germany or abroad, thereby strengthening academic independence and international mobility. As such, it provides an excellent foundation for developing a distinct research profile and preparing for future grant applications, such as DFG Emmy Noether Groups or ERC Starting Grants.

During the session, participants will receive:

  • An overview of the diverse and flexible  funding opportunities offered by the Walter Benjamin Programme
  • Guidance on DFG guidelines, application templates, and evaluation criteria
  • Practical strategies for developing strong proposal sections

The workshop is open to final-year doctoral candidates and early-career postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines at the University of Göttingen (excluding UMG).
The workshop will be conducted in English on-site at the Department of Research and Transfer Services. It will not be offered online. Participation is limited to ensure an interactive format.
