Call for participants: Three-Minute-Thesis competition (3MT) – Your PhD project in 3 minutes (30 May 2026, registration until 31 Mar 2026)

Are you a PhD student at the University of Göttingen? Can you present the core message of your doctoral thesis in just three minutes – in English? If so, the Three‑Minute‑Thesis (3MT) Competition is for you!

Date & time: Saturday 30 May 2026, 15:30 h

Venue: Central Lecture Hall (ZHG), Platz der Göttinger Sieben, Göttingen

Format: Each participant delivers a three‑minute presentation in English. A jury composed of members of the Graduate Schools will evaluate the presentations afterwards.

Since 2024 the Graduate Schools, together with Alumni Göttingen e.V., have been organising their own 3MT sessions as part of the university’s Alumni Day, following the rules and judging criteria established by the University of Queensland, the originator of the 3MT format. Thanks to Alumni Göttingen e.V. prizes of in sum 350 € will be awarded (1st prize: 200 €, 2nd prize: 100 €, audience prize: 50 €).

Coaching

We are pleased to offer optional coaching for all participants who will present on 30 May. The coaching programme includes:

  • Online preparatory sessions
  • An on‑site meeting in May 2026

During the coaching you can refine your three‑minute talk, receive feedback on your slide design, and practise your presentation. While participation is optional, it is highly recommended.
