Exhibition: “PRIVATAR” Forum Wissen

Since 30 April 2026 an immersive special exhibition in collaboration with the Deutsches Theater Göttingen called “PRIVATAR – The Digital Alter Ego in the Classroom” is presented in the Freiraum at Forum Wissen.

Robots that enable students with severe health impairments to attend lessons while acting as their proxies have long since ceased to be a vision of the future. So-called telepresence robots are already being used in numerous schools worldwide. Acting as robotic avatars, they allow students to attend lessons remotely: they can move around the classroom, interact with classmates and transmit lessons by video and microphone.

But what invasions of privacy are associated with this? This is precisely the question addressed by the research project “PRIVATAR – Privacy-friendly Mobile Avatar for Chronically Ill Schoolchildren”, coordinated and carried out by the “Computer Security and Privacy” research group at the University of Göttingen’s Institute for Computer Science.

As a project partner, the Forum Wissen presents an immersive exhibition that invites you to step into the role of the robot itself. Navigate the classroom, solve tasks, and make decisions: How close is it allowed to get to classmates and teachers? What should the robot be allowed to see or hear – and what should be kept hidden?

Info at the exhibition is in English and German. It runs until 16 August 2026.
