Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
liebe Angehörige der Universität,
liebe Studierende, liebe Forschende,
mit diesen Zeilen möchte ich Ihre Aufmerksamkeit einerseits auf Veranstaltungsformate lenken, durch die Postdocs Informationen zu Forschungsfördermöglichkeiten und Karriereoptionen erhalten, und andererseits auf ein äußerst wichtiges Instrument zur Verbesserung der Situation von Postdocs – dem Göttingen Campus Postdoc-Netzwerk. Das Netzwerk zählt über 800 Mitglieder und bietet Unterstützung für Postdocs am gesamten Göttingen Campus. Der monatliche Newsletter liefert Informationen über Stipendien, Forschungsförderungsangebote, Weiterbildungen und Preise, und ist so ein hilfreiches Werkzeug für Wissenschaftler*innen in dieser Phase, um die eigene Forschungsleistung zu steigern und die Karriere voranzutreiben. Tatkräftig unterstützt wird das Netzwerk durch das Postdoc-Komitee des Göttingen Campus, welches beispielsweise Veranstaltungen begleitet, die die Universität für Postdocs organisiert, darunter regelmäßig stattfindende Treffen und die Postdoc Support and Information Fair im kommenden Frühjahr.
In diesem Kontext möchte ich auf eine Veranstaltung hinweisen, die für alle Forschenden, insbesondere auch für Postdocs, wertvolle Impulse und hilfreiche Informationen liefern kann: Am Donnerstag, 12. Oktober 2023, findet im Zentralen Hörsaalgebäude die Veranstaltung Research in Europe statt, organisiert von der Kooperationsstelle EU der Wissenschaftsorganisationen (KoWi) und der Universität Göttingen. Hier werden Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten thematisiert und wissenschaftspolitische Themen diskutiert. Als Informations- und Vernetzungsveranstaltung geplant richtet sie sich an alle Forschenden – von Masterstudent*innen über fortgeschrittene Postdocs bis hin zu Professor*innen. In Vorträgen und Einzelgesprächen haben die Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit, die Fördergeber und Forschungsorganisationen kennenzulernen und sich gezielt über Fördermöglichkeiten zu informieren.
Ein besonderes Highlight ist die jährlich stattfindende Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW Deutschland), die vom 18. bis 22. September 2023 stattfindet: Deutsche Forschungseinrichtungen, Netzwerke und Organisationen liefern Informationen aus dem Arbeits- und Schaffensbereich aufstrebender Wissenschaftler*innen und haben ein buntes Programm zu vielfältigen Themen zusammengestellt. Bereits jetzt können Sie sich für eine oder mehrere der Webinare und Veranstaltungen anmelden.
Ein Hinweis meinerseits zum Schluss: Die Zeit als Postdoc ist in der Regel geprägt von hoher intrinsischer Motivation und wissenschaftlicher Kreativität bei gleichzeitig bestehendem durch den hohen Wettbewerb bedingten Druck und potenziell existierende familiäre Verpflichtungen. Das Postdoc-Netzwerk und die oben beworbenen Veranstaltungen werden die Probleme, die sich daraus ergeben, sicherlich nicht lösen. Dennoch bieten sie Gelegenheiten, die angespannte Situation zu verbessern. Ich möchte Ihnen auf diesem Wege nur wärmstens ans Herz legen: Nehmen Sie diese wahr!

Dear Staff, dear Students, dear Researchers,
I would like to draw your attention here to a number of events and ways that postdocs can receive information about research funding opportunities and career options, as well as an extremely important tool for improving the situation of postdocs – the Göttingen Campus Postdoc Network. The Network has over 800 members and provides support for postdocs across the Göttingen Campus. The monthly newsletter provides information on fellowships, research funding opportunities, training and awards, which makes it a helpful tool for researchers at this stage of their career to improve their own research performance and advance their career. The Network is actively supported by the Postdoc Committee of the Göttingen Campus, which, for example, guides events organised by the University for postdocs, including regular meetings and the Postdoc Support and Information Fair in the spring.
In the same vein, I would like to draw your attention to an event that can provide a valuable boost as well as helpful information for all researchers, especially postdocs: on Thursday 12 October 2023, the event Research in Europe will take place in the Central Lecture Hall (ZHG), organised by the European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations (KoWi) and the University of Göttingen. The event will cover funding opportunities and science policy issues. Planned as an information and networking event, it is aimed at all researchers – from Master’s students to advanced postdocs and professors. Through lectures and individual discussions, participants will have the chance to get to know the funding bodies and research organisations and to obtain tailored information about funding opportunities.
Another special highlight is the annual Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW Germany), which will take place from 18 to 22 September 2023: German research institutions, networks and organisations have teamed up to provide information about the working and creative environments of those who want to work in research and have put together a diverse programme on a range of topics. It is already possible to register for many of the webinars and events.
A few words from me in conclusion: the time as a postdoc is usually characterised by high intrinsic motivation and scientific creativity alongside constant pressures due to fierce competition and, potentially, family obligations. The Postdoc Network and the events advertised above certainly do not solve all the problems that arise. Nevertheless, they offer opportunities to improve what can be a stressful time. So, I would like to take this opportunity to warmly recommend them to you: please take advantage of these opportunities!
