Mit diesem Newsletter greift die SUB Göttingen allgemeine und spezielle Aspekte zum wissenschaftlichen Publizieren auf und informiert über die Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten der unterschiedlichen Publikationswege des Open Access. Neben Veranstaltungshinweisen finden außerdem ausgewählte Themen zu Open Science und Open Access Platz.

Beitritt zu den DEAL-Verträgen: Elsevier, Springer und Wiley
Die Universität Göttingen hat ihren Beitritt zu den neuen DEAL-Verträgen mit Springer und Wiley erklärt. Die Publikationsmöglichkeiten und -verfahren ab 01.01.2024 und bis 31.12.2028 schließen nahtlos an die Abläufe der vorhergehenden Vertragsperiode an. Außerdem ist der Beitritt zum Vertrag DEAL Elsevier erfolgt, hierbei handelt es sich um die erste Vertragsperiode mit dem Verlag (rückwirkender Start ab 01.01.2024).
Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Onboarding-Prozess zu den DEAL-Verträgen teilweise noch läuft, sodass es noch etwas dauern kann, bis die Workflows etabliert sind.

Keine Förderung von MDPI-Publikationen über Publikationsfonds
Bei Zeitschriftenartikeln, die ab dem 15. Februar 2024 beim Verlag MDPI eingereicht werden, ist eine Förderung über den Publikationsfonds der Universität Göttingen (inkl. UMG) nicht mehr möglich. Bitte beachten Sie dies bei Ihren zukünftigen Publikationsvorhaben.
Open-Access-Transformation von Büchern
Die SUB Göttingen schließt Vereinbarungen mit Verlagen und Initiativen, die das Publizieren von Büchern im Open Access unterstützen. Für 2024 gilt das unter anderem für die folgenden Verlage, Publikationsplattformen und Initiativen:
- De Gruyter E-Books
- Language Science Press (LSP)
- Mohr Siebeck
- Open Book Publisher (OBP)
- Transcript – Open Library Medienwissenschaft und Open Library Politikwissenschaft

Open Access Barcamp an der SUB Göttingen
Mitreden, mitmachen, mitgestalten: Vom 14. bis 15. Mai 2024 findet das Open Access Barcamp in Göttingen statt. Professionals, Anfänger*innen und Interessierte im Bereich Open Access haben hier die Möglichkeit, in den Austausch miteinander zu treten, sich zu vernetzen und voneinander zu lernen.
Das Format Barcamp ist im Gegensatz zu klassischen Konferenzen offener und verzichtet auf ein vorab fixiertes Programm. Stattdessen können Teilnehmende selbst Themen vorschlagen oder Sessions halten und sich so zu den für sie relevantesten Inhalten austauschen. Das Barcamp wird im Rahmen des Projekts open-access.network von Mitarbeitenden des Kommunikations-, Informations-, Medienzentrum (KIM) der Universität Konstanz und der SUB Göttingen veranstaltet.

In this newsletter, the SUB Göttingen addresses general and specific aspects of scientific publishing and provides information on the funding options for the various Open Access publication paths. Besides information on events, selected topics on Open Science and Open Access are also included.

Accession to the DEAL contracts: Elsevier, Springer and Wiley
The University of Göttingen has declared its accession to the new DEAL contracts with Springer and Wiley. The publication options and procedures from 01.01.2024 and until 31.12.2028 seamlessly follow the procedures of the previous contract period. In addition, the University of Göttingen have joined the DEAL Elsevier contract, which is the first contract period with the publisher (retroactive start from 01.01.2024).
Please note that the onboarding process for the DEAL contracts is still ongoing in some cases, so it may take some time before the workflows are established.

No funding for MDPI publications via publication funds
The SUB Göttingen concludes agreements with publishers and initiatives that support publishing in Diamond Open Access. Publications in Diamond Open Access are available to readers free of charge, and there are no author fees (APCs, BPCs). Instead, funding is provided via sponsorship and membership models in which the institutions participate. For 2024, there are agreements with the following publishers and platforms, for example:
- Language Science Press (LSP)
- Open Library Economics ejournals
- Open Library of Humanities
- SciPost
- The Programming Historian
- Verfassungsblog
We would be very pleased if you would use the platforms supported by the SUB Göttingen for your publication projects.

New publishing agreements in golden and hybrid open access
The SUB Göttingen concludes transformation contracts and agreements with publishers that support golden and hybrid Open Access publishing. In the case of gold Open Access publications, read access is free of charge, financing is provided via author fees (APCs, BPCs). Hybrid open access publications are a mixed form – some articles in these journals can only be read via a paid license, while others are available to readers free of charge because these articles have been purchased as open access or there is a corresponding contract option. From January 2024, there will be the following changes, among others
- new: Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
- new: John Benjamins
- new: Rockefeller University Press
- expanded (also Gold OA from 2024): Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)

New version: Research data guideline of the University of Göttingen (incl. UMG)
„The Georg-August-Universität Göttingen pursues the goals of critically preserving traditional knowledge, gaining new knowledge and making both accessible and usable for science and society as well as for future generations. The management, preservation, storage and sustainable availability of research data must therefore be carried out according to recognized standards and should comply with the FAIR data principles.“ (Excerpt preamble)
The position of the University of Göttingen (incl. UMG) on the handling of research data is published in Amtliche Mitteilungen I Nr. 1/2024 as part of the revised Research Data Guideline.

Joint declaration on research data from DataCite, Crossref and STM
The declaration on research data from DataCite, Crossref and STM was first published in 2012 and has now been updated. It focuses on the interoperability and citability of research data. The aim of this declaration is to accelerate the adoption of best practices and strategies and to promote further development.
The University of Göttingen has its own research data repository, GRO.data, which is operated by the eResearch Alliance (info@eresearch.uni-goettingen.de).
