Festivals & Zeitgeschichte
Die Sommerzeit ist bekanntlich Festivalzeit und die sind eine gute Möglichkeit sich vom Unistress zu erholen. Viele Festivals wie Wacken oder Rock am Ring gibt es schon seit über 40 Jahren, was sie damit auch für die Zeitgeschichte spannend macht. Noch älter ist das Festival Umsonst & Draußen in Vlotho/Porta Westfalica, das in diesem Jahr 50 wird und Ende der 1970er Jahre bis zu 100.000 Menschen anlockte. Die Public History in Göttingen hat in Kooperation mit dem Festival, lokalen Vereinen und dem Bielefelder Historischen Museum dafür eine kleine Ausstellung zur Geschichte des Festivals konzipiert.
Die Idee war es, die Ausstellung direkt auf das Festival zu bringen, zu den Leuten, die das Festival geprägt haben oder besuchen. Zwischen Afrob, Swiss und die Andern und den Scherben haben die Besucher*innen zahlreich das Zelt mit Ausstellung und Filmprojektion besucht, Erinnerungen ausgetauscht und Selfies gemacht. Eine größere Ausstellung im Historischen Museum in Bielefeld für das nächste Jahr ist in Planung.
Summertime is festival time, as we all know, and festivals are a great way to recover from the stress of university. Many festivals, such as Wacken and Rock am Ring, have been around for over 40 years, which also makes them exciting from a contemporary history perspective. Even older is the Umsonst & Draußen festival in Vlotho/Porta Westfalica, which turns 50 this year and attracted up to 100,000 people in the late 1970s. The Public History department in Göttingen, in cooperation with the festival, local associations and the Bielefeld Historical Museum, has designed a small exhibition on the history of the festival.
The idea was to bring the exhibition directly to the festival, to the people who shaped or visited the festival. Between Afrob, Swiss und die Andern and Die Scherben, numerous visitors visited the tent with the exhibition and film projection, exchanged memories and took selfies. A larger exhibition at the Historical Museum in Bielefeld is planned for next year.
