Europäische Diamond-Open-Access-Konferenz an der SUB Göttingen

Vom 6. bis 8. Oktober 2025 fand die internationale CRAFT-OA-Abschlusskonferenz im Historischen Gebäude der SUB Göttingen statt. Als Veranstalterin konnte die SUB dabei ihre Rolle als wichtiger europäischer Partner für nachhaltige Open-Science-Infrastrukturen untermauern. Höhepunkte war der Launch des Diamond Discovery Hub – eines europaweiten Journals-Registers – das an der SUB Göttingen mitentwickelt wurde. Über 150 Teilnehmende diskutierten technische Lösungen und faire Finanzierungsmodelle für Diamond-Open-Access-Publikationen.

Oxford University Press übernimmt Karger

Karger, ein Verlag aus der Schweiz mit dem Schwerpunkt Medizin, wird von Oxford University Press (OUP) übernommen. Das Portfolio von Karger umfasst ca. 100 Zeitschriften und etwa 9.000 Bücher. Die Übernahme soll noch in diesem Jahr abgeschlossen werden.

Partnerschaft zwischen Taylor & Francis und Amsterdam University Press

Taylor & Francis übernimmt im Rahmen einer neuen Partnerschaft den Großteils des englischsprachigen Buchprogramms von Amsterdam University Press (AUP). AUP wird weiterhin als unabhängiger Verlag tätig sein und sich u. a. auf den Ausbau seines wachsenden Zeitschriftenprogramms konzentrieren.

Die Übernahme des englischsprachigen Buchprogramms durch Taylor & Francis führte u. a. zum Rücktritt der Herausgeber und des Beirats der Serie NECSUS, die den Wechsel zu einem kommerziellen Verlag mit Gewinnabsichten nicht unterstützen.

Umstellung auf Diamond Open Access: Neue Politische Literatur

Die Zeitschrift „Neue Politische Literatur“ (NPL, bisher Springer Nature) wird ab 2026 auf Diamond Open Access umgestellt, sodass weder für Leser*innen noch für Autor*innen Kosten anfallen. Dieser Schritt wird in einem Editorial begründet, u. a. führten die folgenden drei Aspekte zu dieser Entscheidung:

Unverständnis der Autor*innenschaft mit den Modalitäten des DEAL-Vertrags (insbesondere der Umstand, dass Universitäten und Bibliotheken die Kosten für OA-Publikation ganz oder anteilig an die Autor*innen weitergeben)
steigender Aufwand administrativer Prozesse
das Ideal, akademische Wissensproduktion möglichst allen zugänglich zu machen

Gründung der Zeitschrift Replication Research

Replication Research (R2), ist eine neu gegründete multidisziplinäre Zeitschrift für Reproduktions- und Replikationsstudien, die im Diamond-Open-Access-Modell veröffentlicht wird. Dazu gehören Reproduktionen, bei denen derselbe Code und dieselben Daten verwendet werden, um die ursprünglich berichteten Ergebnisse zu verifizieren, enge Replikationen, bei denen neue Daten mit einer Methode gesammelt werden, die der ursprünglichen Studie sehr ähnlich ist, oder konzeptionelle Replikationen, bei denen eine zuvor getestete Hypothese mit neuen Methoden und neuen Daten erneut getestet wird. Die Zeitschrift deckt verschiedene Disziplinen ab, darunter Sozialwissenschaften, digitale Geisteswissenschaften, Geowissenschaften und Neurowissenschaften. In einem Editorial wird auf die Ziele und Inhalte eingegangen.

Unterstützt wird die Zeitschrift vom Münster Center for Open Science, der Universität Münster and der Landesinitiative openaccess.nrw.

Erklärung zum Umgang mit KI im Publikationswesen

In einer gemeinsamen Erklärung formulieren die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB), die TIB – Leibniz-Informationszentrum Technik und Naturwissenschaften und der Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Grundprinzipien für einen verantwortungsvollen und rechtssicheren Umgang mit KI im Publikationswesen. Darin wird u. a. auf die folgenden Anwendungsfelder eingegangen:

Automatische Erschließung mit Hilfe von KI-Systemen
Bearbeiten und Übersetzen von Texten zu eigenen Zwecken
Gesetzlich erlaubte Nutzung: Text und Data Mining (§§ 44b, 60d UrhG)
Perspektivisch: Ablösung der klassischen Bibliothekskataloge durch KI-gesteuerte Recherchewerkzeuge

Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft: Informationen zu Funding Acknowledgements

Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) hat eine Seite zu Finanzierungshinweisen in wissenschaftlichen Publikationen, sogenannten Funding Acknowledgements, veröffentlicht. Diese Finanzierungshinweise tragen zur Transparenz bei und verdeutlichen, welche Ergebnisse aus einer Forschungsförderung resultieren. Bitte beachten Sie die diese Hinweise, wenn Sie Forschungsergebnisse aus DFG-Projekten veröffentlichen.

Open Access und Open Science in der Rechtswissenschaft

Die Zeitschrift „Rechtswissenschaft“ hat ein Sonderheft zum Thema Open Access und Open Science veröffentlicht. Darin wird auf folgende Themen eingegangen:

Offene Infrastrukturen und ihre Finanzierung

Das Sonderheft wurde im Open Access publiziert und steht allen Interessierten kostenfrei auf der Nomos-Verlagswebseite zur Verfügung.

Umfrage zu Bedürfnissen im wissenschaftlichen Publizieren

Das SeDOA Innovation Lab (SIL) der Servicestelle Diamond Open Access (SeDOA) führt derzeit eine Studie durch und lädt Forschende aller Fachrichtungen zur Teilnahme an einer kurzen Umfrage ein. Ziel der Studie ist es, Bedarfe im Bereich Diamond Open Access zu erheben und mögliche Anwendungsfälle zu identifizieren.

European Diamond Open Access Conference at the SUB Göttingen

From 6 to 8 October 2025, the international CRAFT-OA final conference took place in the historic building of the SUB Göttingen. As the organiser, the library was able to reinforce its role as an important European partner for sustainable open science infrastructures. One of the highlights was the launch of the Diamond Discovery Hub – a Europe-wide journal registry – which was co-developed at the SUB Göttingen. Over 150 participants discussed technical solutions and fair financing models for Diamond Open Access publications.

Oxford University Press acquires Karger

Karger, a Swiss publishing house specializing in medicine, is being acquired by Oxford University Press (OUP). Karger’s portfolio comprises approximately 100 journals and around 9,000 books. The transaction is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

Partnership between Taylor & Francis and Amsterdam University Press

Taylor & Francis is acquiring the majority of Amsterdam University Press’s (AUP) English-language book program as part of a new partnership. AUP will continue to operate as an independent publisher and will focus, among other things, on expanding its growing journal program.

The acquisition of the English-language book program by Taylor & Francis led to the resignation of the editors and advisory board of the NECSUS series, who do not support the switch to a commercial, for-profit publisher.

Switch to Diamond Open Access: Neue Politische Literatur

The journal ‘Neue Politische Literatur’ (NPL, previously Springer Nature) will switch to Diamond Open Access from 2026, meaning that neither readers nor authors will incur any costs. This step is explained in an editorial, with the following three aspects contributing to this decision:

Authors‘ lack of understanding of the terms of the DEAL agreement (in particular the fact that universities and libraries pass on the costs of OA publication in full or in part to the authors)
Increasing administrative burden
The ideal of making academic knowledge accessible to as many people as possible

Launch of Replication Research journal

Replication Research (R2) is a newly established multidisciplinary journal for reproduction and replication studies, published under the Diamond Open Access model. This includes reproductions, in which the same code and data are used to verify the originally reported results; close replications, in which new data are collected using a method very similar to the original study; or conceptual replications, in which a previously tested hypothesis is retested using new methods and new data. The journal covers various disciplines, including social sciences, digital humanities, earth sciences and neurosciences. An editorial discusses the journal’s aims and scope.

The journal is supported by the Münster Centre for Open Science, the University of Münster and the Landesinitiative openaccess.nrw.

Declaration on the use of AI in publishing

In a joint declaration, the German National Library (DNB), the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, and the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers and Booksellers Association) have formulated basic principles for the responsible and legally compliant use of AI in publishing. Among other things, the declaration addresses the following areas:

Automatic indexing with the help of AI systems
Editing and translating texts for own purposes
Legally permitted use: text and data mining (Sections 44b, 60d UrhG)
Perspective: replacement of traditional library catalogues with AI-driven search tools

Statement on the financing of Diamond Open Access

Diamond Open Access (DOA) describes publications and publication platforms that do not charge fees to readers or authors. DOA infrastructures are often operated by scientific institutions or financed through membership fees. In April 2025, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina published a discussion paper on the financing and evaluation of scientific journals.

The scholar-led.network has now responded with a statement. The network is an interest group representing stakeholders in science-led publishing in German-speaking countries and advocates for a non-profit publication culture independent of large publishers, beyond APCs and BPCs. In their statement, they welcome the discussion about fair and transparent financing of the diamond open access model, but also express concern that academic cultures and journals that combine scholar-led publishing and diamond open access approaches could be disadvantaged.

Stockholm Declaration: Call for reform of the publication system

In the Stockholm Declaration, a group of leading international scientists calls for reform of the publication system. Among other things, the declaration demand a switch to non-profit open access models and a quality-based evaluation system. It also advocates tougher measures against falsified research results.

open-access.network enters its third round

The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) is funding the joint project open-access.network until 2028 in a third phase. The Göttingen State and University Library (SUB) is participating as a cooperation partner and supporting the expansion of the nationwide open access infrastructure. The focus is on the further development of services such as the oa.blog and training formats, as well as their sustainable anchoring in the scientific landscape. The platform is the central point of contact for OA information. The SUB is thus actively strengthening the open access transformation in Germany.

Survey on needs in scientific publishing

The SeDOA Innovation Lab (SIL) of the Diamond Open Access Service Center (SeDOA) is currently conducting a study and invites researchers from all disciplines to participate in a short survey. The aim of the study is to assess needs in the area of Diamond Open Access and identify possible use cases.
