Wrap-up Week of Methods 2024
The 19th Interdisciplinary Methods Week of the GGG took place from September 9th to 12th, 2024.
After a joint organizational kick-off, Dr. Katharina Beier from the Ombuds Office for Good Research Practice gave a detailed overview of ideal standards and regulations of research conduct on the one hand as well as pitfalls and the continuum between questionable research practices and scientific misconduct on the other. The participants then worked for three and a half days in three parallel workshops:
- Workshop 1: Methodenverknüpfung – Theorie und Forschungspraxis (Dr. Andrea Hense, Göttingen)
- Workshop 2: Text als Daten – computergestützte Methoden der Datensammlung und Textanalyse (Dr. Valentin Gold, Göttingen)
- Workshop 4: Challenges and Benefits: Mastering Qualitative Interviewing in Social Research (Dr. Ina Alber-Armenat, Göttingen)
Due to insufficient demand, Workshop 3 (Understanding Data-Driven Legal Scholarship: A Stata Workshop About Empirical Legal Studies with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Roee Sarel, Hamburg) had to be canceled this year.
With 20 participants, it was the GGG’s smallest Week of Methods to date. However, the few participants were very committed and had the privilege of a particularly intensive exchange in their workshop groups with plenty of room for individual questions.
As in previous years, a highlight was the short guided tour of the historical observatory followed by a barbecue. We all enjoyed the exchange and the relaxed atmosphere. The opportunity to ask questions and seek support was also used repeatedly.
