Introduction to Statistics for PhD students (16.-17.&23.-24.03.2026)


This on-site course gives an overview over some core principles of Statistics. It is best suited for beginners and those who would like to refresh their knowledge about Statistics for their PhD. The course will not cover any advanced topics for statistical modeling.

The course will cover the following topics:

  1. Type of Experiments
  2. Descriptive statistics and forms of data visualizations
  3. Statistical Inference:
    • Basics about Statistical Inference
    • Point Estimates, Confidence Intervals
    • Hypothesis Testing for 1, 2 and more Samples (z-test, t-test, ANOVA, nonparametric tests)
    • Basics about Regression Analysis
    • Basics about Bayesian Inference

Schedule: The course will take place on 16.-17. and 23.-24. of March, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..
The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to practical exercises that can be done in groups or individually and in class or at home.

Registration for the courses will open on 15th of January, 2026. Please register for the course „Seminar: Introduction to Statistics for PhD students“ in stud.ip (Modulenumber: 990058).

Credits: 1 Credit (Participants of both days will receive a certificate of attendance if requested.)
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance if requested. Moreover, there is the option of receiving 1 Credit if submitting all exercises and an additional homework of 3-4 pages.
