Travel Risk Response in Field Research (04.02.2026/Info Event: 22.01.2026)
This on-site workshop aims at providing relevant information and practical training to avoid risk and danger during field research, which sometimes go along with exceptional dangers and risks for researchers.
Our one-day safety training is among other things best practice for safety-oriented behavior in borderline / extreme situations such as medical emergencies, robberies, political unrest, interrogation by authorities or natural disasters. In addition to conveying certainty of action in threat cases, you will get a lot of useful information about how to prepare trips in general and how to prepare trips in risky regions. The overall goal is to improve your situational awareness in unfriendly or hostile environments.

Information event
The trainer offers an online information exchange on 22.01.2026 (10:00 am – 10:30 am).
Participation in the information event does NOT oblige you to participate in the workshop. If you would like to participate in the information event please send an email to Nelly Schubert (ggg.kursanmeldung@uni-goettingen.de).
By participating in this preparatory exchange, you get the chance to ask questions about the workshop. It also provides the basis to customize the workshop content with regard to individual expectations and experiences on the one hand and travel plans (destination, duration of stay, accommodation, group trip vs. individual field excursion etc.) on the other.
This workshop format was included in our qualification program as a consequence of an application in GGG’s funding line „from the bottom up“ in 2022. Due to very positive feedback, we are offering this course again in 2026.
