As part of the European Doctoral Day, we are offering a venue for current and prospective PhD students to listen to postdocs share valuable experiences from their time as PhD student as well as for PhD students to share and exchange their own experiences. We will also have a talk on mental health specifically for doctoral students, given by a trained psychologist and coach. The event is conducted as multiple talks, each with room for open discussions afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>program<\/strong> is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>09:00 Start and Welcome Speech &#8211; PromV Speaker Team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>09:15 Talk by <strong>Jamia Ismita<\/strong><br>(PhD student at Georg-August-Universit\u00e4t G\u00f6ttingen, Department of Animal Sciences, Ruminant Nutrition)<br><em>Title<\/em>: <strong>More than funding: Navigating multiple identities as an international PhD scholar and mother.<\/strong><br><em>About this session<\/em>:<br>Beyond funding, the journey of an international PhD student and mother is a story of evolving expectations, complex challenges, unexpected opportunities, and deeply personal achievements. This talk explores the realities behind the PhD experience\u2014balancing research, parenting, and cultural belonging\u2014and invites a broader understanding of what it truly means to succeed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10:15 Short Break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10:30 Workshop by <strong>Dr. Nadine Binder<\/strong><br>(PhD in psychology, certified professional coach (CPCC, ACC), lecturer, and trainer specialized in personal leadership &amp; development, healthy work strategies, mental health, time- and self-management, communication, intercultural competencies, and DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion &amp; belonging))<br><em>Title<\/em>: <strong>No Mud, No Lotus: Practical Resilience Tools for the PhD Journey<\/strong><br><em>About this session<\/em>:<br>PhD work inevitably includes setbacks, uncertainty, and self-doubt. In this 1-hour session, you\u2019ll learn practical, research-informed tactics and strategies to recover faster after difficult moments, work with common \u201cinner saboteurs\u201d (e.g., inner critic, perfectionism, impostor thoughts), and build small habits that strengthen your resilience over time. You\u2019ll leave with a personal toolkit you can apply immediately in your day-to-day doctoral work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>11:30 Short Break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>11:45 Talk by <strong>Dr. Anne Petzold<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. Elena Jolkver<\/strong><br><em>Title<\/em>: <strong>Perspectives on postdoc careers<\/strong><br><em>About this session<\/em>:<br>Rigid long-term career planning might lead to dead ends and instead embracing serendipity allows for more rewarding opportunities, such as exploring alternative paths like consultancy.
