The performance is commemorating a pivotal moment in scientific history: the centenary of quantum mechanics. On 31 March 1925, groundbreaking ideas from Göttingen reshaped the understanding of the natural world and marked the beginning of a revolution in physics.

What happened exactly 100 years ago? The classical, deterministic worldview that had dominated science for centuries collapsed as ideas of uncertainty, superposition, and probability began to emerge. Instead of a strict, cause-and-effect description of nature, quantum mechanics introduced a new era, one characterized by ambiguity and possibilities. Was this the dawn of an “Age of Uncertainty”?

Through a captivating reading of letters and autobiographical writings, accompanied by expert explanations and live experiments, a glimpse into the profound transformations that went beyond science and left a lasting impact on society will be offered. The evening will also highlight the visionary individuals responsible for these revolutionary insights.

Featuring:

Prof. Dr. Tim Salditt, Institute for X-ray Physics, University of Göttingen

Actors from the ensemble for a dynamic, multidisciplinary performance

This event is in collaboration with the Faculty of Physics, University of Göttingen.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore the birth of quantum mechanics and the remarkable individuals who made it possible!

More information and tickets: https://www.dt-goettingen.de/stueck/und-der-alte-wuerfelt-doch

On 31 March 2025, 20:30 – 22:00h, and on 15 May 2025, 20:00-21:30h, the insightful and thought-provoking piece “Und der Alte würfelt doch!” is performed at the Deutsche Theater in Göttingen.
