The call will <strong>open to applications on 15 Jan 2026<\/strong>. Research must be within the Royal Society\u2019s remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics. For further details on the eligibility criteria, application procedure and what the grant includes see below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong> (slighlty different from previous years!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>awarded the PhD or successfully defended the doctoral thesis by the closing date for applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have no more than <strong>5 years<\/strong> of active full time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (discounting career breaks, but including teaching experience and\/or time spent in industry)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be working outside the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>not hold UK citizenship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be competent in oral and written English<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal agreed with a UK host scientist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For <strong>full details of all eligibility requirements,<\/strong> please read the\u00a0scheme notes (PDF), which will be online available soon via this <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsociety.org\/grants\/newton-international\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webpage<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For <strong>full details on the standard conditions of grants<\/strong> awarded by the Royal Society, pelase check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsociety.org\/-\/media\/grants\/standard-conditions-of-award.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>PDF<\/strong><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scheme&#8217;s value and tenure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Newton International Fellowships provide funding (maximum award of \u00a3280,000) for <strong>two years<\/strong> covering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>basic salary as set by the host institution and associated on-costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>research expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>relocation expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contribution to visa costs for Newton International Fellow and their dependents (partner and children)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>estate costs and indirect costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Newton International Fellowship is a flexible award. It can be held on either a full-time or on a part-time basis for health reasons and caring responsibilities.&nbsp;There is also provision for maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, adoptive or extended sick leave as well as financial support for childcare costs that arise from attending conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful applicants may also be eligible to receive annual funding following completion of their fellowship to support networking activities with UK-based researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for the natural and physical sciences should be submitted through the Royal Society\u2019s grants management system Flexi-Grant\u00ae.
