Science goes City: Forschung in der Fußgängerzone am Sonntag, 5. Mai 2024 / Researchers present their work downtown on Sunday, 5 May 2024
Vielfältige Forschung trifft auf eine vielseitige Stadt: Beim Aktionstag „Science goes City“ am Sonntag, 5. Mai 2024, stellen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler des Göttingen Campus von 10 bis 18 Uhr in der Innenstadt ihre Arbeit vor. Auch städtische Einrichtungen sind unter ihrem Motto „Göttingen Goes Green“ dabei.
Der Aktionstag ist eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung der Universität Göttingen, der Göttingen Marketing GmbH und der Stadt Göttingen. Anstatt in Laboren, Bibliotheken, Büros und Hörsälen präsentieren die Forschenden in der Fußgängerzone und in Innenstadtgeschäften spannende Wissenschaft aus allen Bereichen: Unter den mehr als 60 Programmpunkten ist von Robotern fürs Klassenzimmer über Metallguss der Bronzezeit, von Sonnenteleskopen und OP-Simulatoren bis hin zur geobiologischen Reise in die Frühzeit unseres Planeten und von der Starkregensimulation bis zum Play-Forward-Festival alles dabei. Zwischen 13 und 18 Uhr ist an diesem Tag auch verkaufsoffener Sonntag in der Innenstadt.
Das Bühnenprogramm vor dem Alten Rathaus beginnt um 10 Uhr mit der Begrüßung durch Universitätspräsident Prof. Dr. Metin Tolan und Oberbürgermeisterin Petra Broistedt. Anschließend folgen dort unter anderem die Shows „Feuer und Flamme für die Chemie“ und „Zauberhafte Physik“. Die Aktionen auf dem Wilhelmsplatz, in der Alten Mensa, an der Johanniskirche und in der restlichen Fußgängerzone beginnen um 12 Uhr – vom DLR-Windkanal über Feinstaubmessungen und Blutentnahme bis hin zu Themen wie Tierversuchen und Göttingens kolonialer Geschichte. Im Laufe des Tages werden zudem thematische Stadtführungen angeboten. Besonders an Kinder und Jugendliche gerichtete Angebote wie Kletterwand, Outdoor-Spiele und der Stand der Wortschatzinsel gibt es auf dem Kirchhof von St. Johannis.

Diverse research meets a diverse city: „Science goes City“ on Sunday, 5 May 2024, has scientists from the Göttingen Campus presenting their work in the city center from 10:00 to 18:00. City institutions will also be taking part under their motto „Göttingen Goes Green“. The joint event is organized by the University of Göttingen, Göttingen Marketing GmbH and the City of Göttingen. Instead of in laboratories, libraries, offices and lecture halls, researchers will be presenting exciting science from all areas in the pedestrian zone and in city center stores: Among the more than 60 program items, there is everything from robots for the classroom to Bronze Age metal casting, from solar telescopes and surgical simulators to a geobiological journey into the early days of our planet and from heavy rainfall simulation to the Play Forward Festival. Between 13:00 and 18:00, the city center will also be open for business on Sunday.
The stage program in front of the Old Town Hall begins at 10:00 with a welcome by University President Professor Metin Tolan and Mayor Petra Broistedt. This will be followed by the shows „Fire and Flame for Chemistry“ and „Magical Physics“, among others. The activities on Wilhelmsplatz, in the Alte Mensa, at the Johanniskirche and in the rest of the pedestrian zone begin at 12:00 noon – from the DLR wind tunnel to fine dust measurements and blood sampling to topics such as animal testing and Göttingen’s colonial history. Thematic city tours will also be offered throughout the day. Children and young people in particular can enjoy the climbing wall, outdoor games and the „Wortschatzinsel“ stand in the churchyard of St. Johannis.
